Holy Week in Braga is considered the main tourist attraction of the city. In this week a whole set of cultural and religious manifestations take place, such as exhibitions, concerts, processions and others. During all this week the altars of the churches, each one evoking a scene from the Passion of Christ, are decorated with flowers and candles.
Of all those that take place in Portugal, Braga’s Holy Week is the most imposing and the most publicized, attracting many tourists to the city. Visitors seek essentially the great night processions that are characterized by hundreds of participants. In it, elements of liturgy and popular religiosity are harmoniously combined, as well as ancient traditions and innovation. Since November 23, 2011, it is officially “Declared of Interest to Tourism”.
