Some Spelling Rules for the Letter G

The letter G when written with the digit "gu" before the letters E and I, gets the sound /g/;
The letter G when written before the letters E and I, gets the sound /Ʒ/ (similar to the letter J);
The letter G is always used in words ending in "-agem" and "-ugem";
The initial syllables "al-", "le-" and "re-" are usually followed by the letter G (except in the verb reject).

In Portuguese language the letter G can have the following sounds:

The Letter G can have the sound /g/ as in Guerra, Lago or Gorila; (War, Lake, Gorilla)
Letter G can have the sound /Ʒ/ as in Canoagem, Paisagem or Viagem. (Canoing, Landscape or Travel)
